We are on a mission to rescue small businesses from compliance chaos and people-ops confusion. This is a remote, client-facing role where you will use your superpowers to lead business executives to elevate and build their HR infrastructure, often from the ground up. If you are a California specialist, senior level HR pro who thrives on solving problems, building scalable systems, and knows California and multi-state compliance in your sleep, we want to hear from you.
The depth of California compliance knowledge is the primary essential requirement and will be evaluated in the interview process. Your Mission:
The Compliance Defender: You will navigate multi-state compliance, specifically tackling the complexities of California labor laws.
Strategic & Tactical Action: You will deploy everything from PIPs, Performance Reviews, and job descriptions to rock-solid handbooks and policies.
Benefits & Admin: You save the day by implementing and managing benefits packages, retirement plans and enrollment systems.
Tech Stack Sorcery: You implement and manage small business payroll and workflows with HR tech stacks (ADP, BambooHR, Gusto, Rippling, Paylocity, Paychex, etc.).
Employee Relations: You will handle managing onboarding, offboarding, conflict resolution, and conducting investigations.
Your Superpower
Requirements
Experience: You have 7+ years of CA HR experience, with at least 2+ years specifically in remote HR consulting. An HR Certification or Degree is preferred.
Tech-Savvy: Your utility belt is stocked with digital tools. You are proficient in Google Workspace, MS Office 365, Slack, and Monday.com or similar tools to collaborate. You use AI daily to be more efficient, spending time saved to give a human review and edit.
Speed & Agility: You are self-motivated and resourceful. Our clients move fast, so the ability to respond to inquiries same day is preferred and within 1 business day is essential.
Culture: You take your craft seriously (accuracy is our kryptonite against risk!), but you like to have fun and thrive in a collaborative consulting environment. Commitment & Logistics:
We are asking for an availability commitment of minimum 25 hours a week.
If you have greater availability, additional hours can ramp up as new clients are onboarded.
